An Unfortunate Incident

It’s the 101st Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial at Gallup, NM. A wonderful gathering of culture and traditions of indigenous peoples that have occupied these lands for thousands of years. And I’ve been looking forward to documenting events that most people do not get to see.

As I arrived and left my car at Red Rock Park I heard fireworks? gunshots? part of some event? As I walked to the central building the guard looked at me and said, you know what that is don’t you. It was gunfire, but not part of anything that should be happening that evening and ended up shutting down a wonderful set of events. To the best of my knowledge no one was hurt.

Security was forceful and exemplary in handling the situation. A sad way to end the day.

I don’t post personal political information unless I’ve been to a rally and post up images from that event.

To my surprise as I was photographing the Sale of Champions at the Ohio State Fair today, one of the high bidders gave a shout out to Kari Lake. Now the lady is from Arizona and I keep getting emails from their campaign asking for support. Ah, no! The amount of election fraud noise from her is terrible.

So when she posed with the champion turkey, well you decide what and who.

Tonight at the Franklin County Fair while photographing the demolition derby one of the participants got hit really hard! Out cold in the car. Old newspaper days kicked in and a bit of spot news coverage.

As the last image show, driver walked away with the help of the Norwich Township Fire Department!!!

Last Oct/Nov I had a chance to visit the Odesa area. Nothing more than a seaport and resort area. An absolutely lovely area filled with wonderful people. Why Russia would attack the area is just pure evil. There is nothing there that would offensive to Russia.

A seaside city that Russians would visit before this mess started. People playing chess, fishing in sight of the crane at the port, people getting married, lovely buildings and people photographing people. Just a normal day in a normal city, but not now.

I’m hoping all people in Odesa and my Rotarian friends are ok.

I have been very fortunate to have visited Ukraine recently. Flight into Warsaw crossed the border to Lviv and on to Kyiv, Kharkiv and then on to Odesa.

I met up with Rotarians along the way and they provided me with transportation in each city and a look at what life has been and is now within a country at war.

I am coming to the end of editing and will be able to post the entire trip soon.

Today, Monday 12/12/2022, NBC 4 here in Columbus will air a brief interview on some of what I did and saw in this trip.

As I think back to that day, 9/11, on the road with other Ohio State University people I remember the disbelief of what was happening. Called Dad in California to get some clarification and Dad just kept saying “they are gone”. Wasn’t till I had a chance to see the news and the awful images on TV.

Things we don’t know, see or want to understand. The reality is there are people who have served our country and live in the wood or under a bridge. They aren’t on the street corner, just don’t have a place, fell thru the crack, just want to be left alone.
I met Benito under a bridge in New Orlean’s and his brother Luis. Benito is a veteran, lives a quiet life in a tent, doesn’t like being around others and lives life off the grid.
The first time I met Benito I found a dime next to his foot. Not a big deal, a good friend of mine and I would look for coins around parking meters after a meeting downtown just for fun. This wasn’t fun and it was disturbing to me to find it and give it to Benito.
How do we fit into this world and lending a hand to those less fortunate? Something for all of us to ponder, act upon.
I see them and wonder could I have ended up here?
